Wyndham’s Theatre is part of Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, which is one of the largest London theatre owners with a portfolio of seven theatres. DMT owns and runs the Prince Edward Theatre, the Queen’s Theatre where Les Misérables is going into its 24th year, the Prince of Wales Theatre, refurbished in 2004 to recreate the glamour of the 1930s and the Novello Theatre, renovated to celebrate its centenary in 2005. Wyndham’s and the renamed Noel Coward Theatre joined DMT in September 2005 with the Gilegud completing the portfolio in March 2006.
Major restoration of the Noel Coward, Gielgud and Wyndham’s Theatre has now been completed, demonstrating our commitment to the improvement and upgrading of all Delfont Mackintosh Theatres. The West End Theatre itself is one of two opened by the actor/manager Charles Wyndham (cp Criterion Theatre). Located on Charing Cross Road, in the City of Westminster, it was designed by W.G.R. Sprague about 1898, the architect of six other London theatres between then and 1916.
It was designed to seat 759 patrons on three levels although later refurbishment changed it into four. The theatre was Grade II listed by English Heritage in September 1960. The nearest London Underground stations are Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross. London Charing Cross is also a National Rail station.
